Glossary
AUPASYS
A materials logistics system for industrial-scale transport of materials (sheeted paper on pallets); i.e., from the paper store to the sheetfed press and from the press into finishing.
AUROSYS
A comprehensive, modular, materials logistics system for industrial-scale paper reel handling for all aspects of a web press operation.
Chambered doctor blade/anilox roller coating method
A special doctor blade system for coating modules, consisting of an enclosed aluminum chamber with two doctor blades, one of which is set to the anilox roller in its direction of rotation, the other in the counter direction, for optimal coating dosage to the anilox form roller.
CIP3
A vendor-independent, open-architecture standard for the exchange of data between prepress, press and postpress operations.
COLORMAN
A high-productivity range of 85,000 cph, double-width newspaper presses with a wide variety of freely configured printing unit modules, from blanket-to-blanket eight-couple towers through to ten-cylinder satellites.
CROMOMAN
A 50,000 cph, eight-couple tower press with triple-ring bearing technology for four-page newspaper production, printing unit modules for horizontal and vertical web leads offer a wide range of applications including selected commercial work.
Digital workflow
Digital data generated once can be reused during the entire production process.
Double coater
Twin coaters for inline enhancement on a multi-color sheetfed press using two different application methods - chambered doctor blade/anilox roller and a two-roller system. manroland worked together with coating and ink makers to develop this process specifically for applying water-based gold and silver inks. The process is often used as an alternative to off-line bronzing.
Double hybrid
A two-color press with twin coaters that, for the first time, makes it possible to lay down "metallized" special colors plus gloss, matte or pearlescent coatings in extremely thick layers.
DICOweb
Modular digital system introduced at DRUPA 2000. System utilizes rolls of paper which are cut to size (variable cutoff); image/de-image/re-image capability; modular allowing the addition of printing units; inker also modular allowing change from current conventional offset inker to one such as flexo or, heretofore, undeveloped process; includes integrated modular finishing.
DRIVESYS
The individual motor drive technology used on manroland web presses.
DYNAPLATE
Permits "on the fly" changeover of plates, inks and page counts.
GEOMAN F
Double-width newspaper press with triple-ring bearing technology for any pagination with full four-color capability, in eight-couple tower design or in the flexible ten-cylinder satellite design. Also available with anilox inkers.
Inline enhancement units
manroland sheetfed presses can be equipped with coating modules for applying coating over the multi-color print.
Just-in-time production
Updated short runs printed on demand, often decentralized.
LITHOMAN
Commercial web offset press range in formats up to 48 pages for industrial-scale production of magazines and catalogues with high page counts, books and telephone directories.
Modular design
Web and sheetfed presses are made up of components such as printing units, feeders, deliveries, folders, dryers, coating modules, etc. Modular design provides a wide variety of configurations.
Packaging printing
In offset printing, this covers production of folding boxes from carton and micro-corrugated board as well as labels.
PECOM automation and networking concept
manroland's process electronics system for printing plant networking over three levels: PEC (Process Electronic Control) = the system base that encompasses the press with all its control and regulation functions; PEO (Process Electronic Organization) = the organization level in the pressroom and encompasses central job preparation and monitoring; PEM (Process Electronic Management) = the management level for central organization of all working processes in the plant this level is linked to the PEC and PEO levels via the PECOM Management Interface.
PPL (Power Plate Loading)
Printing of books, journals, magazines, newspapers.
Publications printing
Covers all products from circulars through short-run up to high-value company brochures.
Roland 200
Sheetfed press in the half-sheet size (20" x 29-1/8") with a proven track record for smaller commercial printers.
Roland 300
Highly automated PECOM Press Center-controlled machine in the special 23-1/4" x 29-1/8" size, perfecting as standard, with the power and performance for high-volume commercial printing but also extremely efficient for all other jobs as well, digital control enables it to be integrated in a superior data network.
Roland 500
High-performance 18,000 sph packaging press (no perfeting mode).
Roland 700
Highly automated PECOM Press Center-controlled machine in the medium size (29-1/8" x 41"), an all-rounder for commercial printing, publications and packaging, digital control enables it to be integrated in a superior data network.
Roland 900
Highly automated PECOM Press Center-controlled machine in large format (up to 55.9"), universal in application, digital control enables it to be integrated in a superior data network.
ROTOMAN
Range of 65,000-80,000 cph commercial webs for high-quality heatset production of short through to the very longest runs.
Selected Commercial work
Close to full commercial quality products printed on a newspaper pressline
System competence
Taking responsibility for the entire production process. This entails the total planning - machinery and equipment for prepress, press and postpress operations plus planning of the premises equipment commissioning and service.
UNISET
A 70,000 cph single-width press with shaftless technology for newspapers and selected commercial work.
